LETTER FROM OUR PRESIDENT

Jones County Safe and Healthy Youth Coalition

By Phil Parsons

Wikipedia defines a coalition as an alliance among individuals or groups, during which they cooperate in joint action, each in their own self-interest, joining forces together for a common cause. (http://en.wikipedia.org/).

This is the purpose of JCSHYC; to join forces together for a common cause.

What is the cause of JCSHYC?  Our cause is the enhancement of lives in Jones County.  For the Coalition this is accomplished by the reduction of substance abuse in our community. Substance abuse is       destructive physically, emotionally, and financially. It also infects all segments of our community     including families, schools, neighbor hoods, businesses, governments, etc. The reduction of substance abuse creates a safe and healthy environment where children can be provided an opportunity to reach their full potential in life. The JCSHYC has chosen to get off the bench and engage with this issue with the goal to improve the quality of life for themselves and others in Jones County.

What are the forces of JCSHYC? The forces are the individuals and organizations that make up Jones County. The forces are you and I. Each individual and organization has its own skills, abilities, knowledge, and ideas, etc. Independently we are lacking, but together we are able to form an alliance equipped to tackle some of the systemic problems we currently face. The more engagement from the community equals more resources which in turn equals a greater force to apply to the cause.

If you are interested in joining JCSHYC in enhancing the quality of life for yourself and others in Jones County please connect with us; the greater the force, the greater the change.
